* Services marked
with an asterisk indicate a high speed service operates. Stena's HSS shown here
is the largest of these vessels and have revolutionised ferry travel in recent
years cutting journey times in half. It is also less susceptible to bad weather
cancellations.
A smaller 'Seacat' catamaran also operates from Belfast by
Hoverspeed. A
winner of the prestigious transatlantic Blue Riband some years ago, it has
quicker turnaround
time in port. Due to the bow wave being smaller, it can nip up Belfast Lough or
Loch Ryan a little quicker without damaging yachts moored in it's wake. Warning
notices are placed along the lough shoreline as waves caused by such vessels can
catch people unaware, particularly at high tide. Strict speed limits are now
observed by the operators of these vessels after public concern.
P&O operate the mono-hulled Jetliner from Larne to Cairnryan, making it the
quickest crossing time between Ireland and Scotland. These vessels carry cars,
caravans and their passengers. High vehicle space is limited, so lorries,
coaches and commercial traffic travel on the conventional ferries.
Many customers travel
to France and beyond. We supply through tickets to Continental Europe known as
Landbridge. This
combines the journeys between Ireland and England, Scotland or Wales, and then
from
the South of England to Northern, France, Belgium or Holland. These special
fares represent a good saving compared with buying two separate tickets. In
conjunction with Irish Ferries, Stena, Hoverspeed
or P&O, we can arrange
these special through tickets with almost all ferry routes. If travelling to Continental Europe, motoring insurance is essential to cover breakdown or accident
recovery. We supply Green Flag cover at competitive rates.
